Get some therapy

The derision of complementary therapies, from some more traditional health practitioners, has certainly eased off over recent years. Now an acceptable approach to general health, it’s sometimes the accessibility to these therapies which poses a problem.

An exciting development at the LGBT Centre for Health & Wellbeing in Edinburgh, sees a whole bunch of complementary therapies available over coming months, offering both one-to-one and group sessions.

Therapies, with an emphasis on self-care, will include; Massage, Reflexology, Indian Head Massage, Tibetan Medicine, Bi-Aura Therapy, Cranial-Sacral Therapy, Homoeopathy and the Alexander Technique, along with Yoga, Tai-Chi, Dream Workshops and Meditation classes for groups. While therapies will not be free, it’s assured that all LGBT community members have access, regardless of capacity to pay.

Therapy

All therapists will have undergone a preparatory training, which includes an introduction to the work of the Centre, and to ensure that they feel confident and able to work sensitively with all sections of the community.

To launch the programme, an Open day event in the early Spring will have therapists offering tasters, presentations and the chance to chat and find out more about what’s on offer. You’ll also have the opportunity to make bookings for a full therapy session once it starts. If you’ve never tried complementary therapies, this is definitely a chance to experience a whole range.

Core is a partnership project representing the LGBT community in Scotland. Views expressed are not necessarily those of the partners. However, if they're witty, intelligent and insightful - they probably are. If you flicked through this mag, saw a photie and made an assumption about someone's sexuality - then you're about ten years behind what we're trying to do here. Click the mag off and walk away. Accurate at going online time, but hey, we didn't get this sarky without making mistakes.
